The Workhouse Gym has been a constant independent, local establishment for over 30 years, started by brother and sister combo, Liam and Kerry.
Changing its name to Image Fitness for many years under new management, it returned to its original and current name in 2011. Elis started working in the gym in 2013 with Sam joining him just a couple of years later in 2015. Eventually, the pair decided to purchase it themselves on 1st August 2017, marking the start of a new era… and a new look.
Starting by giving the gym a much needed facelift, taking away the suspended ceiling and adding a new staircase to give better access to the second floor, Sam and Elis also took this opportunity to put their own stamp on the place. Now not only a community gym but a gym with a great community of both longstanding members and regular visitors, The Workhouse Gym is also proud to host national weightlifting and powerlifting competitions throughout the year.
The Workhouse continues to be a cornerstone in Malton’s marketplace and the go to place for everything strength and conditioning in the area!
WORKHOUSE BRAND
The Workhouse branding, as it is today, was created in August 2017 and as you may be able to tell, we love it. You can see in the initial logo ideas drawn by us, that was then developed with the aid of our local design company to become more than just a logo. It is our brand and when we see people wearing our merch it fills us with pride. Our branding has travelled the world either as clothing on the backs of travelling Workhouse members, or as stickers that have been position to in such a way that a little drop of the Workhouse magic has been left there.
