How do I join the gym?
We’re all about getting to know you. To sign up, just pop in and one of our team will help you find the best option for your goals.

Do I need an induction?
No, you don’t, but if you’d like one, please pop in or give us a call. One of our highly trained coaches will get you started and show you around.

What are your membership options and prices?
We offer single sessions, weekly passes, monthly memberships, unlimited classes & gym packages, and personal training.

Is there a joining fee or contract?
There’s no joining fee, and no contracts. We want you to want to be here, not feel trapped. Memberships run month to month, and if you need to stop for any reason, just let us know and we’ll cancel your subscription.

Can I pause or cancel my membership?
Yes, just give us notice, and we’ll freeze or cancel your membership without any hassle.

Do you offer day passes or pay-as-you-go options?
You can call the gym, email us, or book online via our booking system.

Is there a minimum age to join?
Yes, anyone under 16 must be supervised by an adult. We also run an Under 16s Class where one of our coaches will supervise and teach correct technique.

Is there a minimum sign-up for membership?
No, memberships run month to month. If you need to stop for any reason, just let us know and we’ll cancel your subscription, no problem.

Do you offer student, NHS, or corporate discounts?
Yes, Blue Light card holders, veterans, students, and over 60s all receive a discount.

How do I access the gym — do I need a fob or code?
We’re always staffed, so you can just walk in and train.

Can I train outside staffed hours?
No, we pride ourselves on always having someone here to help you.
Coaching & Training

Do you offer personal training or coaching?
Yes, our coaching team works with everyone from complete beginners to competitive athletes. You can book one-to-one, small group, or online coaching.

Do you run classes?
We do. Expect strength and conditioning, a good balance between lifting weights and Cardiovascular fitness and circuits.

What kind of classes do you run?
We run Strength and Conditioning classes 11 times a week and Under 16s classes 3 times a week. Our Classes.

What’s the minimum age for the Under-16s class?
You’ll need to be in secondary school (age 11+) to join. Please note, this is an adult training environment, and the class runs while other members are using the gym.

How do I book a class or session?

Do I need to be fit before starting?
Absolutely not. All our coaches adapt sessions to your ability and fitness level, that’s what we’re here for.

I’m new to the gym, will someone show me what to do?
Yes, we offer 1-2-1 coaching sessions to make sure you get full attention and confidence before starting.

Do you help with nutrition or weight loss?
Yes, we offer personalised guidance to match your goals, whether that’s dropping fat, building muscle, or improving energy and wellbeing.

How do I book an induction or a 1-2-1 coaching session?
Give us a call or pop in. One of our coaches will get you booked in. All coaching sessions are charged at the same rate.

What is the cancellation policy for 1-2-1 coaching sessions?
We ask for 24 hours’ notice. We understand life happens, so just give us a call if you need to rearrange.
Facilities & Equipment

What kind of equipment do you have?
We’ve built The Workhouse to be one of the best-equipped independent gyms in North Yorkshire. Check out our Facilities page.

Do you have Strongman equipment?
Yes, lots! Including Atlas Stones, Yokes, Sandbags, Kegs, and Farmers Handles.

Can I just use the sauna?
Of course, it’s the same rate as a single session and included in our membership. The sauna is for members aged 18 and over.

How do I request the sauna?
The sauna takes around 30 minutes to warm up. Ask when you arrive so it heats while you train, or call ahead on 01653 692707.

Is there a cardio area?
Yes, we’ve got the full range of Concept2 equipment (Rower, SkiErg, BikeErg), plus Assault Bikes and a treadmill.

Do you have showers and changing rooms?
Yes, clean, simple, and well kept.

Is there parking available?
Yes, we’re right in the heart of Malton Marketplace, with plenty of nearby parking:
● Market Place – 2 hours free
● Spital Street (Cattle Grid) – 2 hours free (unavailable on Farmers Market days)
● Horsemarket Road – free all day (unavailable on Farmers Market days). Please check parking signs before you leave your car.

Do you have lockers or somewhere to store bags?
Yes, bring your own padlock or grab one at reception. We also have pigeonholes for valuables. Most members use the changing rooms to store their things.

Do you have a coffee area or social space?
Not formally, but the front desk area is where members often catch up and grab a coffee before or after training.

Is the gym beginner-friendly?
Definitely. Most of our members started as beginners, and there’s always someone happy to help.

Do you have women-only sessions?
No, the gym is for everyone. Our classes often have more women, but they run alongside open gym slots for anyone to join.

Do you host events, challenges, or social meetups?
Yes, we host events throughout the year, including summer and Christmas parties, social walks, and in-house competitions.
We also run a monthly challenge to test yourself, keep an eye on our socials for updates.

How do you support members with injuries or health conditions?
All our coaching is client-centred. We meet you where you are and adapt training around any injuries or conditions.

Health, Safety & Policies

What are your cleaning and hygiene policies?
We clean the gym regularly throughout the week, with a full deep clean every Sunday, ready for a fresh start each Monday morning.

What should I do if I feel unwell or get injured?
Rest is often best, but speak with one of our team for advice.
We also have referral links with local physios and therapists who specialise in injury rehabilitation. -
Do you have CCTV or security measures in place?
Yes, for the safety and security of all members.

Guests are welcome! Day and week passes are available.

Yes, as long as it’s done safely and respectfully, and you’re mindful of others.
